Creating a Press Kit

A press kit is essential for businesses. Although the name suggests that it is only to be given to the media, a press kit is also useful for anyone interested the details of your business. Basically, a press kit is a folder or package of information about your business. While there are companies that can create kits for you, you can also create one on your own inexpensively.

Here is what you will need:

1) Pocket folder to hold your material.
2) An introduction letter. This should state what the package includes as well as contact details for further information.
3) A short biography of yourself, the company owner. Include interesting facts about you or your business. (Why you started it, what you hope to do, the future of your business.)
4) Any current or past press coverage.
5) Picture pages that show examples of your products. This could also be demonstrated through a brochure.
6) Small promotional items branded with your business name. (optional)

Remember that a press kit is the first impression of your business. Always use high quality supplies.

If you have a website, or primarily do business online, a press kit can also be digital. To create a digital kit, simply zip the files into a downloadable link to be placed on your website. It is a good idea to offer your information in several file formats (Adobe PDF, Microsoft Word and Works.)
